The first ever event, originally called the St Pauls Festival, took place in 1968. The event has changed many times over the years but has always remained a celebration of the local community.
From a small parade of floats, Carnival evolved over the decades into a vibrant day of colour and music with soundsystems aplenty and tens of thousands of people flocking to St Pauls to enjoy a party that went on into the small hours.
For the historic 50th anniversary celebrations in 2018, St Pauls Carnival was run by the St Pauls Carnival Community Interest Company, which formed in February 2017 to help create a stable and sustainable future for the iconic event.
