The Bristol Harbour Festival is the largest event in the city, regularly attracting 250,000 people to explore the banks of the city's famous harbour and be entertained and the multiple music and dance stages. Showcasing the city’s incredible maritime heritage, the historic floating harbour takes pride of place during the weekend, celebrating Bristol's rich history with free, family-friendly activities programmed on the water’s edge.
From spoken word to children's entertainment, multiple dance forms, circus acts, food markets and maritime activity, the Bristol Harbour Festival stretches from Queen Square and Millennium Square all the way to the ss Great Britain. The event champions Bristol's talent, with local bands and solo artists playing at Thekla, the Jelli Records Stage, Grain Barge and elsewhere. Cirque Bijou also put together a stunning programme and there are plenty of displays on the water itself, along with visits to the city from elegant tall ships. All the entertainment is free and there are plenty of chances for the crowds to get involved, including in the ever-popular cardboard boat race. In recent years the Colston Hall has put on some headline gigs including New Order in 2019. The festival is managed and produced on behalf of Bristol City Council by Bristol-based Richmond Event Management.
